Why Does My Car Overheat All the Time?

Call us right away if your car overheats all the time. We would be happy to inspect the cooling system to find the problem. As an aside, the issue may not be the cooling system. Rather, if you have failed to maintain your vehicle, things such as dirty motor oil can make the engine run too hot. Let’s focus on the cooling system in this blog post, however, and the things that can go wrong with the system.

Cooling System Clog

If you check your owner’s manual you will see that the cooling system should be flushed every 30,000 miles. This allows us the opportunity to remove any dirt and sediment that have built up inside of the cooling system. This prevents clogs in the cooling system. If your cooling system is clogged, the coolant will be unable to circulate through the engine and reduce its temperature.

Cooling System Leak

In addition, when we check your cooling system every 30,000 miles, we make sure that nothing is leaking. You can end up with a leak in the cooling system if one of the radiator hoses has cracked. In addition, the radiator can leak if it is rusted. As if that were not enough, the cooling system can also leak from the thermostat and water pump when they get too old.

Faulty System Parts

Speaking of the thermostat and water pump, your car will overheat every time that you drive it if the thermostat or water pump has gone bad. This generally happens after about 100,000 miles or 10 years of use. Unfortunately, the thermostat and water pump cannot be repaired. Rather, if they are too old, they will need to be removed and replaced with a new thermostat and water pump.

Other system parts that can go bad include, again, the radiator lines, the seals, or the system gaskets. This is why having the cooling system checked every 30,000 miles prevents additional problems. For example, if, after 30,000 miles, the system needs a new seal, we can install it.

Radiator Problems

Finally, the radiator itself can get clogged with sediment. In addition, if you drive an old automobile, the radiator can start leaking out of the bottom because rust has eaten through it. The radiator fins can get clogged with dirt and debris, and the radiator fan can malfunction.

Any of these things will make your car overheat every time that you drive the automobile. Call us right away if you are having problems with overheating.
